S’Mores: 5 Ways

Quick, what is the first thing you think of when it comes to camping? For us, one thing that comes to mind is s’mores! They are a campfire staple, and of course are super tasty! But sometimes the good old, classic s’more can get boring. Having the same graham cracker, marshmallow, and chocolate trio each night can feel redundant after awhile.

Well guess what!? You can change your s’mores recipes up to try something new!  There are endless ways to make s’mores with a variety of different combinations to suit your preferences. We picked five of our favourite unique recipes to give you some inspiration. Let’s get to eatin’!

S’mores Charcuterie Board

(inspired by lifeisaparty.ca)

Charcuterie boards are all the rage right now and they are perfect for entertaining. Even better? They are not just for cheese and crackers anymore! The kids will absolutely love this setup because of all the options for treats at hand. Here are some things you could include on your board:

  • Graham crackers
  • Various types of cookies
  • Milk chocolate pieces
  • Dark chocolate pieces
  • Different chocolate bars
  • Nuts
  • Nutella
  • Peanut butter
  • Marshmallows of all kinds and sizes

Get creative with this one! There is so much room for individual choice here and it could be changed up each time you do it.

Waffle Cone S’mores

(inspired by mothersniche.ca)

This is a fun alternative but does take a bit longer to make. That said, the end result is delicious, and the kids will definitely love it! You still get the taste of a s’more, but in a totally new way. You’ll need the following:

  • Waffle or sugar cones
  • Varieties of chocolate (chocolate chips, chocolate pieces, etc)
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Anything else you’d like such as peanut butter, berries, caramel pieces

The great thing about this one is that everyone in the family could have a slightly different cone! After the basic ingredients, add in whatever suits your taste buds. When you’ve decided on what to add, put the cones together, wrap them in foil and place them over the fire for 5-10 minutes. Yum!

Skillet S’mores Dip

(inspired by adventuresofmel.com)

A dip is ideal for the family to share! It is like a classic s’more, except that the mixture will be melted to perfection. You can also make it over the campfire, or you can make it in the oven, so you can enjoy it even when not camping! You’ll need:

  • Chocolate chips or chocolate pieces
  • Graham cracker pieces (you could either break up larger crackers or use teddy grahams)
  • Regular graham crackers
  • Mini marshmallows

In your skillet, make a layer of chocolate and marshmallows, followed by another layer of chocolate. Then, add a third layer of small graham cracker pieces, more chocolate and top it off with marshmallows. Place the pan over the fire for 3-5 minutes or until things start to melt – you don’t want to burn that bottom layer! You can serve it with the large graham crackers for dipping. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

S’mores Nachos

(inspired by letscampsmore.com)

This dish is similar to the dip, but with a bit of a twist. It is another great recipe that the whole family can enjoy together, and it can be made while camping or at home.  The list of ingredients is simple, as are the prep instructions, so you won’t have to wait long to eat it! All you need is:

  • Graham crackers
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Regular-sized marshmallows
  • Chocolate chips or any chocolate of your choice, in pieces

Get out your skillet and start by spreading the crackers on the very bottom, then place some mini marshmallows and chocolate and top. Repeat this process for as many (or as few) layers as you would like. Finish off with some more chocolate and a few regular marshmallows. Cook it over the fire until it is melted and voila! Bon Appetit!

Simple, “Fancy” S’mores

Not every different way to make s’mores must be complicated or time-consuming. You can also just take a basic s’more and add, or swap out, a few ingredients to change things up!

The Apple Pie S’more – Instead of graham crackers, use apple slices! You can use chocolate as usual or add in caramel or butterscotch chips for some extra flavour.

The PB & J S’more – Everyone loves a classic PB & J sandwich! Swap out chocolate for a dollop of peanut butter and the jelly of your choice. For a slightly different taste, try crunchy peanut butter.

S’moreo – This one is pretty simple, and pretty tasty! Use an Oreo instead of a graham cracker. You’ll have cookie on the top and bottom and tasty cream filling and marshmallow in the middle. Add in some Nutella or peanut butter for a bit more flavour!

Fruity S’mores – Add a twist to your typical graham crackers, marshmallow and chocolate combo. Put some fruit in there too for a sweet surprise! You can use whatever fruit you want, but some of the best options are raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and banana.

Well, our mouths are drooling now, how about you? S’mores are a versatile camping treat and can be done in so many fun ways. What is your favourite alternative s’more recipe? Let us know in the comments! And if you try any of these out, please send us some photos. Now go have “s’more” camping fun!
