14 Things We Love About PEI

There are endless reasons to love our beautiful little island, and in honour of Valentine’s Day, we have compiled just a few of the things that make PEI so special!

1. The Islanders

I think we can all agree that PEI wouldn’t be quite the same without island hospitality, and our welcoming nature. Us islanders are very proud of our home and our ability to make others feel like it’s their home as well. We are eager to make recommendations for our favourite things to do and see, hidden gems, and great places to eat! We are always excited to welcome back our friends that come from away!

2. Our Friends From Away

PEI wouldn’t be PEI without our friends from away. Every summer, our island comes alive with people from all over who come together to enjoy everything our beautiful island summer has to offer! Friends from away: summer just wouldn’t be the same without you!

3. The Beaches (Duh!)

Prince Edward Island has some of the most beautiful beaches around, you never have to go very far to find one! The south shore offers calm waters for floating and the north shore rolling waves for playing in! Our calm bays and harbours offer the best conditions for kayaking and paddle boarding (our Basin Beach is the perfect place for both!) We may be biased, but one of the best beaches on the island can be found right at our campground! There’s nothing better than a PEI beach day!

4. Sunsets

PEI sunsets are second to none! Here, you’ll experience some of the most beautiful sunsets you’ve ever seen, and Twin Shores sure has a great view!

5. Food!

We are called the ‘Food Island’ for a reason! PEI has endless, delicious dining opportunities! Most notably our mouth watering PEI New Potatoes, and fresh PEI seafood! Not to mention patio season is our favourite season. Enjoying an incredible locally sourced meal on a patio, watching the city go by, or the boats on the bay, nothing beats it! And of course we can’t forget our famous PEI Lobster Suppers! And of course if you’re staying at Twin Shores, Twin Treats is always a good option for supper!

6. Local Beer, Wine, and Spirits

PEI has an abundance of local craft beers, coolers, and wines. You can even tour many of the wineries and distilleries!

7. ADL Ice Cream

It’s safe to say that ADL ice cream is the best ice cream. Their soft-serve is the smoothest, creamiest ice cream you’ll ever have, and we have the honour of serving it up at TWO locations in the campground! Hit up Beach Treats or Twin Treats for the best ice cream around!

8. Scenic Routes

On PEI, the journey is always equally as beautiful as the destination. Views of the ocean, bays, rolling hills, and dunes. If you come in June, you’ll get to see the endless ditches and fields full of lupins! No matter where you’re headed on the island, almost every route is a scenic route!

9. Festivals

PEI has become known for its various festivals and no matter what time of year you visit, there is likely to be one happening! To name a few, PEI Festival of Small Halls in June, Cavendish Beach Music Festival in early July, Old Home Week in August, and PEI International Shellfish Festival in September. There is always something to celebrate!

10. Local Makers

One of the best things about PEI is the local shopping! With so many incredibly talented local artisans, you’re sure to find the perfect souvenir, art piece, home decor, pottery mug, you name it!

11. Our Capital City

Charlottetown is probably one of the cutest cities ever. Seaside boardwalks, picturesque harbours, adorable little streets, gorgeous old buildings and so many dining and shopping options! Charlottetown certainly knows how to do patio season right! There’s a restaurant around every corner and live music all summer. See a show at the Confederation Centre, or hang out and listen to local music at Peakes Quay. There are endless good times in our capital city!

12. History and Culture

Of course our province is the birthplace of confederation but we are so much more! Take a trip to the Canadian Potato Museum in Tignish, visit the Acadian Museum in Miscouche to learn about French pioneers, or visit Lennox Island to learn about Mi’kmaq culture! Interested in lighthouses? Visit the West Point Lighthouse Museum. Explore PEI’s celtic roots at a Ceilidh. History and culture can be found everywhere on Prince Edward Island!

13. Lighthouses

Speaking of lighthouses, they are a huge part of our history! Lighthouses of various shapes, sizes and colors dot the coastline of PEI. Once used to keep mariners safe and guide them home. While there are a few that still have working lights, most are out of commission. Today our lighthouses have many different uses, mainly educational! You can even do a lighthouse tour! Nothing says PEI like a good lighthouse!

14. Twin Shores!

Okay, okay this one is definitely biased, but of course we had to add it to the list! Bring on summer nights, campfires, beach days, and family time!

Our island is home to friendly people, delicious food, beautiful beaches, gorgeous scenery, rich history, fun festivals, talented artisans, the cutest capital city and of course our home, Twin Shores. What’s not to love? Can PEI be our Valentine? Let the countdown to summer begin!
